Top Reasons to Visit Les Arcs this Winter 2018

Les Arcs is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful ski resorts in all of France. Skiers, tourists, and winter lovers of all kinds travel from across the world to visit the mega-resort in the French Alps of Savoie every winter. More than one hundred majestic runs suitable for both skiers and snowboarders. Four spectacular open-plan Arc resort villages seamlessly integrated into the mountain setting there is something for everyone to enjoy. With luxurious facilities, countless shops, and a rich history of cinema; there’s almost as much excitement inside as there is on the slopes. The 2017-2018 winter season in particular offers some special events. These can turn your ski vacation into a memory that will last for the rest of your life.

Upcoming Events

This winter will see Les Arcs playing host to their third annual film festival. It's dedicated to snow-riding films from November 10th-12th 2017. The ski season opens officially on December 10th 2017. The principal idea behind the festival: to demonstrate all the diversity associated with the mountains and the snow just before the winter.

This year on opening weekend (December 15th-17th) Les Arcs are featuring a unique experience with fondue tasting and exciting challenges out on the hills. Combined with a DJ set, film screenings and previews for the Les Arcs European Film Festival; to be held the following weekend. Starting in the new year there will be opportunities for ski-mountaineering at night. Geared for everyone from youngsters to seniors and starting at Arc 1600. At the end of January there are three ski-touring events for those who want to test their skills with challenges. Events alongside renowned sportspeople, leading into the French Freeride World Qualifier.

Freerider

Freeride week runs from January 29th to 4th February 2018.  It brings together the best international hopefuls in skiing, snowboarding and freeriding. The Freeride World Qualifier will take place in Les Arcs on the one and only 4-star stage in France.

If you want to be the first on the slopes; First Tracks Col de l'Arpette take place every Wednesday from December 20th to April 20th, between 7.45 AM and 9 AM. So, get up early and start your day enjoying perfectly groomed runs before anyone else.  Then share breakfast and watch the sunrise with mountain ski professionals. If your a late riser, late afternoon's (3pm onwards) and early evening, the L’Arpette bar is the place to be with DJ, raclette and a torch-lit descent at around 9pm. 

In February the season concludes with La Safety Day. An event started by the Skishop group with AdrienCoirier. It's designed to create an opportunity for mountain professionals to teach mountain safety, including the work of the rescue patrols. The day also includes a chance to meet the dog-handlers and their furry companions.  Its a great opportunity to enjoy an afternoon trying out equipment in the village.

Places to visit

Aside from the featured events for the winter season; Les Arcs has also added some new permanent features to enhance an already excellent experience. This winter will see them create largest igloo village in France. Measuring four hundred square metres and containing beautiful ice caves, an igloo bar, a restaurant, a dance floor, and the option for overnight stays in igloos. On December 16th the very first five-star hotel in Les Arcs. It will open at the top of Arc 2000; the Taj-I-Mah will feature skiing into and out of the hotel. It will also feature two high-calibre restaurants, and a large wellness area for rest and relaxation.

Also opening for the first time this year at Arc 2000 is an ice rink that is available for everyone. You can even get your skates on for a some night-time exciting moments to share with family and friends. 2017 will be the first full year of the family friendly leisure area Mille 8. It will be jam packed with enjoyable activities, comfortable skiing areas including a toboggan track.

Time to relax and unwind

Mille 8 also has fantastic swimming pool facilities! If you need to relax after a workout on the slopes, La Piscine invites you to relax. It has a out of time atmosphere where you can enjoy a blissful moment après-ski with family and friends.  There's a wellness area with 2 saunas. Or a fully equipped super gym with weight machines and cardio training - if you need even more workout time. But just for the sheer fun; the pool area with bubble massages, jacuzzis, waterfalls, cave, splash pad pentaglisse corridors will entertain you and the kids.

For the foodies

Amongst the various Arc villages there are more than seventy restaurants offering an endless variety of delectable cuisine. Le Diamant Noir Restaurant is located in Les Arc 2000 in the newly opening Taj-I-Mah Hotel. It'll be offering a refined menu featuring a number of dishes with the exquisite black truffle. Kilucru Restaurant in Les Arc 1800 specializes in sushi.  Try both the dine-in and take-out options. try out the Japanese beer and mixed sushi platters! Also on Les Arc 2000 is Le Savoy Restaurant, with comfortable sun loungers on a large outdoor terrace. Best for enjoying a snack and serving traditional savoyard cuisine for lunch and dinner. All within the warm, cosy, and relaxed atmosphere. If traditional French food is what you desire, visit La Table des Lys Restaurant in the heart Arc 1950. They offer an unparalleled dining experience adored by locals and tourists alike.

Aside from the Les Arcs resorts, down the valley in Bourg saint Maurice you will experience the true Alpine experience.  With a friendly community atmosphere, what better than to share a glass of vin chaud, or a raclette.
